HI, I AM

YOAN PERNICENI

AND THIS IS MY PORTFOLIO

I AM 19 YEARS OLD

And passionate about the arts, especially digital arts, I am a huge cinema and video game enthusiast. I am an avid gamer, and my universe has been shaped by inspirations from games like Silent Hill, Bioshock, and the works of Sam Lake’s Remedy studio, particularly Alan Wake. In cinema, my references include The Lighthouse, Fight Club, Requiem for a Dream, and Inception....

This passion naturally led me to explore 3D and video game creation. I started as a self-taught learner, mastering digital drawing and 3D modeling. During my schooling, I joined an artistic class before continuing in general high school with a cinema specialty. This specialty allowed me to develop complex narratives while giving me the opportunity to participate in projects like the Nikon Film Festival.

Today, while pursuing my studies in video game design, I am also working on the production of a feature film with a group of friends who share a passion for art and the emotions conveyed through imagery.

My journey has also allowed me to experience significant milestones, such as attending the Cannes Film Festival to connect with cinema professionals, participating in the César des Lycéens program, and presenting my short film Last in the student competition at the International Fenêtres sur Courts Festival. These enriching experiences have shaped my artistic vision and strengthened my determination to create unique works.

Now, I dedicate myself to video games because I want to go further than cinema. I see this medium as an opportunity for even more immersive and interactive exploration, where storytelling and emotion take on a new dimension, pushing beyond the limits of the big screen.

LAST

The genesis of Last

Is rooted in a personal and intimate reflection on themes of solitude, hope, and humanity facing the unknown. The idea emerged at a time when I wanted to explore profound emotions through a strong visual narrative, focusing on characters who, despite their isolation, convey a powerful sense of resilience.

From the beginning, I knew I wanted a minimalist yet symbolic film, where every shot would tell a story. Inspired by cinematic works that emphasize aesthetics and silence, I aimed to create an immersive atmosphere that is both oppressive and poetic. Using Blender to bring Last to life was a significant challenge, as I had no prior knowledge of 3D animation. This pushed me to learn on the go, experiment, and push my technical and creative boundaries.

The film was born out of a desire to depict humanity facing collapse while retaining fragments of hope. Through desolate landscapes and carefully crafted visual choices, I sought to convey raw and sincere emotion while leaving room for the viewer's interpretation. Collaborating with musicians for the soundtrack was also essential to enhance the emotional impact of the scenes.

The selection of Last at the International Fenêtres sur Courts Festival was an immense satisfaction and a recognition of the hard work behind this project. More than just a shortfilm, Last is an experience that allowed me to better understand my artistic potential and the infinite possibilities offered by digital imagery.

Liam's Artwork

Creating the character of Liam was a real challenge. I aimed to capture an aesthetic that combines simplicity with inner turmoil. To achieve this, I drew inspiration from my surroundings and personal experiences, giving the character an authentic emotional depth.

Poster for the film Last

I designed the posters for Last while maintaining the raw aesthetic true to the film. They embody the sense of violence and horror that runs throughout the story.

Photography Art

Last is not just a static cinematic work; it explores multiple mediums. Here, a series of photographs highlights the character Ash, portrayed by the talented Romane Mazzocca, while staying true to the film’s raw and unique aesthetic.

Music Work

Working across various mediums was extremely important to me, and music plays a crucial role in the film. I had the privilege of collaborating with the exceptional musician Nora Cros, who performed a piano cover of Mutter by the renowned metal band Rammstein.

PHOTOGRAPHIC PROJECTS

Freezing the images...

Whether it’s for Last, my other projects, or festivals, it’s crucial for me to preserve these moments through photography. Each picture serves as a timeless record of these unique and enriching experiences.

Project Photography

For each of my projects, I make sure to capture key moments through photography to create lasting memories. Here, a photo shoot was organized in Chalon-sur-Saône to showcase the pianist Nora Cros.

Aesthetic

My photographic style leans toward a dark and moody aesthetic. My black-and-white photos, with strong contrasts, are crafted to emphasize the city's geometry and lines, creating a striking visual impact.

Festival Projects

Film festivals always provide a unique opportunity for photography. The variety of faces and personalities creates moments worth capturing.  Here is the photo series from the Cannes Film Festival
